What is CBD?
We from Canna Berlin sell in the Café Canna Berlin and in our online store exclusively high-quality hemp and CBD products. We do this out of conviction: We think hemp is a true miracle herb, and we want to share its beneficial effects with you! We have already told you about its various benefits in our last blog article, now we would like to take a closer look at a special feature of it. Namely, one of its cannabinoids, cannabidiol, abbreviated CBD. Many of the Canna Berlin products are based on CBD, so we think it's important to educate you on the subject. So, what are cannabinoids actually?
Cannabinoids - active substances of the hemp plant
Cannabinoids are active substances that are mainly found in the hemp plant; in cannabis there are more than 100 different cannabinoids! The best known is certainly tetrahydrocannabinol - THC for short - but CBD is also becoming increasingly popular. Unlike THC, however, CBD does not have an intoxicating effect and is neither a narcotic nor an addictive substance. On the contrary: CBD consumption has a positive effect on people in many different ways, the consumption relaxes and decramps, relieves pain, inflammation, anxiety and depression. About 30 years ago, these valuable properties finally led medicine to increasingly focus on CBD in research: In the process, it made the surprising discovery that cannabinoids are not only found in hemp, but also in the human body!
Endocannbinoid system in the human brain
Humans produce so-called endocannabinoids, i.e. cannabinoids produced naturally in the body. The human brain has an endocannabinoid system. This is part of the nervous system and includes the cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2. These receptors are the action points of the endogenous cannabindoid system, they stimulate various neurotransmitters that have an effect on the body and mind similar to cannabis: They calm, relieve pain, provide better sleep and reduce our stress. So they have a significant impact on our well-being! Those who produce enough endocannabinoids are protected from depression and anxiety. On the other hand, if our body does not produce enough endocannabinoids, we run the risk of getting sick. Thus, current medical research links an endocannabinoid deficiency to neurological and mental illnesses, metabolic disorders, pain, inflammation, and even cancer. 
Cannabis active ingredients can thus support the endocannabinoid system, especially when there is a deficiency of endocannabinoids! Put simply, cannabinoids thus promote health - and holistically: a rheumatism patient thus benefits not only from the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect of CBD, but also from its mood-lifting, sleep-promoting or anxiety-relieving effect.
The entourage effect of CBD
Whoever wants CBD to unfold its full effect, relies on the so-called entourage effect. This says that individual substances of a plant work better in the compound than isolated - a kind of synergy effect thus. For CBD, this means that it is best consumed in combination with other ingredients of the cannabis plant, i.e. with other cannbinoids and terpenes - these are also chemical compounds that occur in plants, for example in essential oils, but also in hemp; in fact, 200 of them! Especially cool: the combination of terpenes can also be used to control the effect of CBD. Thus, orange peel or lavender flowers - both rich in terpenes, each of which is also found in hemp - can be
combined with CBD to achieve a certain effect: Orange has a mood-lifting effect, lavender an anxiety-relieving one.
Canna Berlin CBD full spectrum oil
But so that you do not always have to dry orange peels or buy lavender flowers, we offer a so-called full spectrum CBD oil. This means that the Canna Berlin CBD oil contains the entire spectrum of the cannabis plant: in it are all known cannabinoids, but also terpenes of the cannabis plant. Our Canna Berlin CBD oil is obtained by a gentle CO2 extraction from the cannabis flower - so all its important ingredients remain contained and you benefit from the entourage effect. However, hemp extract is fat soluble, which means that the body needs vegetable fats to absorb and convert it. That's why we blend the concentrate with an organic coconut MCT oil, which can also be metabolized quickly. Our oils are laboratory tested for their ingredients. What's on them is what's in them.
Novel Food
Unfortunately, CBD is (still) declared as "Novel Food" in the EU. What does that mean? Quite simply, foods that were allegedly not sold and consumed in large quantities in the EU before 1997 end up on said Novel Food list. "Novel foods," according to the EU's Novel Food Regulation, must be evaluated for health safety before they can be recommended and sold for consumption. The review process for CBD is currently still in full swing. However, anything other than an approval should not actually come out of this. Already in 2018, the WHO has declared the harmlessness of cannbidiol and stated in its report that this is neither addictive nor intoxicating.
Various intake forms of CBD
Despite this, CBD is currently still on the Novel Food List - which is why we are also not allowed to give you a consumption recommendation and are forced to call our Berlin CBD products cosmetic. We are therefore not allowed to advise you to mix Canna Berlin CBD oil into drinks or food, nor are we allowed to point out in the product description that you should rather drip the oil directly under your tongue for an optimal effect. CBD Vaporize
You can also vape CBD! This means that you can vaporize and inhale cannabis flowers containing CBD with the help of a so-called vaporizer. Its ingredients thus enter the bloodstream without leaving tar residues in the lungs: Up to 56% of the CBD active ingredient enters the bloodstream this way and does its miraculous work there. Unfortunately, this is also currently (still) prohibited by the authorities, so flowers are sold as incense to flavor the room.
